Hand/Jack in pencil, Part 2

More sketches with spoilers for Doctor Who 3x13: The Love Story of Hand/Jack, Part 2 of 2. This part is a lot less recap and a lot more conjecture. :)
Last time in the Love Story of Hand/Jack, everything went to hell. Jack brought the Hand with him to meet the Doctor, for No Logical Reason So It Must Be Love. The Hand was used to hurt the Doctor. The Doctor was mad in every sense of the word, but was he angry with Jack?...
No! The Doctor was not angry with Jack! At least he did not show it.
The Doctor had other things to worry about.

He knew Jack could take care of himself. He didn't need to worry about Jack.
Jack and the Hand did not get to be together. They did not get to see the Doctor.
Jack was a prisoner. The bad man let him be dirty, but he didn't even let him take off his shirt.

The Hand was in slavery, forced to be one of the Master's pets.
Sometimes the Hand even had to soak the reeds for the Master's oboe.

While he was a prisoner, Jack had many hours to think. Jack did not think much about the Hand.
Jack thought about the Doctor. He thought about the Doctor a lot.
He also thought about Martha once in awhile.

He was glad Rose was on a different Earth.

And he thought about his Team. He hoped they were hiding in the Mountains.
He wondered how pissed off they were about the camping.
He wondered how quickly Ianto had figured out how to make coffee using a tin can, a campfire, and local plants.
He wondered how many of his Team were still alive.

Jack thought about the Doctor some more. The Doctor had his own demons. One of them used to be Jack.
The Doctor did not feel about Jack the way Jack felt about the Doctor.
But it would never matter, Jack still loved the Doctor. Jack would always help the Doctor.

The Doctor tried to help people. The Doctor protected the Earth.

Jack was very angry about what happened on Earth while he was chained to a wall.
Jack knew how to help people. Jack knew how to protect the Earth, just like the Doctor.
Finally, after one year, a lot of Stuff happened. The bad man was dead. The Doctor, Jack, and the Hand were free.

Also there was something about Martha.

Jack found the Hand. Jack gave the Hand back to the Doctor as a present.
How romantic! The Doctor kept the Hand.

Jack thought that the best way to love the Doctor was to defend the Earth. So this time, he left his Doctor.
The Doctor was a little sad. Jack was sad too, but he smiled.
It had been fun to have his name in the credits for a little while.

But the Doctor still had a piece ofhimself Jack.
The Doctor introduced his Hand to his Time Machine.

This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship...

Date: 2007-07-02 12:27 am (UTC)I completely agree that he would have spent most of the year thinking about the Doctor. His stupid team the whole year? NOT.
LJ was being so stupid that I never did get to link the first part. I need to link both!

Sigh. Me either. I've been trying to wank it, but nothing takes. I really thought this exercise might produce something, um, extra-textual that I could live with, but that was weak as well. Woe!
His stupid team the whole year? NOT.
Not even close. I am glad he thought about them, because I love those blessed idiots and when he goes back I want their dynamic to be able to advance, but no way would he spend most of his time mooning over them while he was chained up a couple of rooms away from the Doctor, who's sick and being abused no less.

I don't think so, either. I think this was part of him letting the Doctor off the hook - of Jack making his graceful exit, dignity intact, and of not burdening the Doctor with his (Jack's) own... stuff. Tagalong took the You Don't Like Me Like That, So I'm Leaving tact, whereas Jack spared the Doctor much more by taking the I Have Important Stuff To Do Here Which Supercedes The Important Stuff I Would Like Us To Do, Innuendo Intended, And Hey I Didn't Even Think Much About You This Past Year, Too Busy Thinking Of My Team, Busy Busy That's Me Gotta Go See Ya. Or something. I didn't explain that well. It's him leaving *because* he loves the Doctor and wants to honor him and be like him and put the mission (protect the Earth) ahead of personal feelings. Whereas Tagalong left because she can't get his attention anyway.
I feel a post coming on.

Date: 2007-07-03 02:29 am (UTC)Hee! You're so sweet. I'm glad you like it. It's loads of fun to do, but surprisingly time-consuming. I've never drawn cartoons before and have no idea what I'm doing. But you know how fandom stuff goes, sometimes you just get extra obsessed and it has to come out some way. I'll keep my pencil sharp. :)

I think this may have been the nuance I was looking for in my wankage. ::clings::

No! That's perfect! I've been wavering a lot but mostly on the negative, sad, unfulfilled side. I understand what you're saying, and I think it works for me. I still don't think the episode did a good job with the Jack/Doctor stuff, but I'm happy if we can wank an explanation.
Yes, please do post!

Date: 2007-07-03 02:59 am (UTC)For real. Like GC, I want to print this and put it in a book. As for not knowing about comics---*pfft* I don't believe it. ;)
I love "Defended" and the Sarah Jane and Rose mentions. Love that nobody has hands, which makes Hand all the more special. And I &heart; *rakishly defiant* Jack. (And *spite* Master, too.) I need an icon of Jack that says that, and I'll credit you, if it's okay.

Yay! I love that too, and I wish I could say it had been my plan all along. But really, I just can't draw hands (cf the Hand), so they would have all looked the same, and it would have detracted from the Hand.
And go right ahead with the icon! Will it be a dirty-faced, Jesus-posed icon? Guh.

Date: 2007-07-06 10:17 am (UTC)I nearly literally fell off my chair giggling, which is so not a good plan in the middle of the university library. Just inspired.
*rakishly defiant*
*embarrasses self. again*
Inspired!

That's a sign of true evil, that is.
And the hand, with fish and oboe reed! Big silly grin, all over my face.

Date: 2007-07-07 02:58 am (UTC)Isn't it, though? Such a shameful WASTE.
And the hand, with fish and oboe reed!
That was probably the easiest to draw (obviously) and the most fun. I'm so tickled that you liked it!

Date: 2007-07-10 03:32 am (UTC)But... would it have killed Jack to get his shirt off?
I KNOW! But maybe, like the Wicked Queen in Snow White, the Master had a rule about nobody in the land being fairer than him. So the guards were there to make sure Jack didn't take his shirt off, causing the Valiant to implode with his hotness.

Earth Defended should definitely be made into an icon. It can make friends with my cartoon Jack icon and live happily ever after in my icon folder on *spit* Vista.

Date: 2007-07-16 03:45 am (UTC)Earth Defended, like this? I swear it can't be hard to get big sketches to turn into little icons that don't look like they were made in MS Paint, but I haven't figured it out. Yet!

Date: 2007-07-19 05:24 pm (UTC)ICON LOVE!!! It's adorable and wee and I adore it.
(And thank you so much for all of your lovely comments over at Teaspoon! That first Owen/Gwen fic is so OOC now it isn't even funny!)

Date: 2007-07-19 09:35 pm (UTC)Teaspoon! LiveJournal abandoned me during the critical post-class/need-to-decompress hour yesterday, and I think I should be thankful, because I'd meant to go read your old fics and I'd never got around to starting it. Also I've found the archive format a little confusing, but I'm glad I signed up, because now I can keep my favorite stories in one place.
That first Owen/Gwen fic is so OOC now it isn't even funny!
But it's nice to look back on the time when there was clearly that potential! I think it still reads as very believeable. When did you actually write it? And a related question I thought of when I read "String of Deceit" today, when did you first start being a Gwen/Owen shipper? I'm just curious. It took me most of the season to start caring about Owen enough to give much of a damn, but it looks like you started writing them a lot earlier than that. Before Countrycide?

Date: 2007-07-20 02:04 pm (UTC)There's is a lot of fabulous stories at Teaspoon. And a lot that...are not. Think FF.net on a v.v. small scale.
String of Deceit..ZOMG! That was the very first fic I wrote in TW fandom and the first substantiative fic I wrote in years (and those early ones really show it!). I went back and checked and I wrote it post-Cyberwoman and *that* kiss. For some reason it caught my attention and made me go "hmmmm...." Of course, after Countrycide I was lost. "Shot in the Dark" was right after Countrycide and I still hadn't quite found their voice. Then again, I'm not sure they did in the show either. ;)
I'm convinced there is some history of abuse in Owen's past - whether it is physical or mental. His strong reaction to Lizzie's plight in "Ghost Machine" made me wonder whether he'd been in a similar position of being powerless. His "tired of people doubting me" sort of backed that up for me. Then again..maybe this is a conversation best suited for that *other* comm.
OMG - META! Is the dry streak over?
