travels_in_time, thank you!
Summary: Charley is finding that Cliche Land is as ridiculous as it sounds.
Notes: Written for the happy occasion of
mad_jaks' birthday.
C'rizz was concentrating so hard, Charley was afraid his exoskeleton would explode.
"There, have I got it?" he asked hopefully.
"No, sorry. But you've managed some lovely stripes of brown and silver! You're blending in perfectly with the rope and the steel rails, in fact."
"Sorry, I'm nervous. And I don't think I've ever done bright orange before. As a matter of fact, I've only seen a tangerine once."
"I know, you're trying. But I explained about trains... they're very large, and they can't stop unless they see you from quite a distance away. I think tangerine is our best chance."
C'rizz screwed his eyes shut again and took a deep breath. This time, patches of his skin turned light mauve.
"That's better!" Charley said with delight. "You're almost there. Mind you, if the Doctor comes before we've managed to work these ropes free, I'm going to wish a train had run us over. He'll never let me live this down. It's ridiculous."
"At least he didn't see the evil man with the black hat and pointed... moose?"
"Mustache. Quite."
"Charlotte?"
"Mm?"
"Is your dress designed to lift in the breeze like that?"
"Oh, b—"
"Charley! C'rizz! What are you doing lying around? You're missing the most fascinating rally of archaic motor vehicles!"
It was amazing how the Doctor managed to turn up at exactly the right time, and how the right time was so often wrong.
"Hello, Doctor." Charley squirmed, willing the breeze to stay calm.
The Doctor paused, seemed about to speak, and then changed his mind and whirled around, heading back in the direction he'd come from. "Well, don't be long!" he called over his shoulder.
Charley let out a growl of frustration. Finally, like the blink of a light on the TARDIS console, C'rizz turned orange.

Best opening line EVAR! I could almost *feel* him vibrating :D
I can't help wanting the mustachioed villain of the piece to be someone the Doctor is possibly already familiar with, in one of his (later) trademark disguises.

So glad you enjoyed it! My prompts were "rope" and Charley; I was a bit surprised that C'rizz entered the picture but I was glad he did. :)

Date: 2010-07-29 08:21 pm (UTC)C'rizz has a really interesting arc, I think, and most of it is set in another universe, so the writers were free to experiment with some unusual types of stories. Good stuff. But I know what you mean, there's so much, it can be a little overwhelming.
